Hey, I was wondering if any of you who have played with this build can tell me whether it corrects the problems with font installations and activations that I have been experiencing in Leopard Build 9A321.

Installing new fonts into 9A321 usually is not a problem. But the MS fonts that install with Office frequently are more recent versions that those that install into the root library. So rather than have mulitple versions of the same fonts, I generally replace the older versions of the fonts with the newer ones, and they show up just fine in Font Book and are accessible to all applications.

Under 9A321, there is a problem with activating these replacement fonts. They generally show up in Font Book as greyed out. When the dialogue box comes up and asks if you'd like to activate these fonts, and you click "yes", then the activation of the fonts fails.

The workaround seems to be to manually drag these fonts within Font Book to the sidebar that says, "all fonts'. But even following this method, fails to activate Arial v 3.05. Plus, at one time and for no apparent reason, all my fonts in Font Book became inactivated. I think I ended up having to reinstall Leopard in order to fix this problem.

Wow, I didnt even notice.
I will try that out on 343 and 344 when I get home.

Hi Adrian,

I sure hope that you can find out something about why these replacement fonts won't work. It's really odd that more recent versions of Arial, Arial Black, Trebuchet MS, and New Times Roman are so difficult to get to run under Leopard. They run flawlessly under Tiger. Arial 3.0.5 won't run at all under v. 321 of leopard. The other fonts I got to run, but there are duplicates of some of them in Font Book, and efforts to eliminate the duplicates result in eliminating those fonts completely. Not running Leopard now, so I can't report which fonts are affected by the duplicate problem.

Also, I have found an installer that won't work under leopard v. 321. The installer for Missing Sync for Palm OS will cause a kernal panic when you try to restart after running the installer. I've notified the deveolper on that one so hopefully it will be fixed by the time the final version is out.

But the leopard fonts issue affects everyone, so if it's still present in Build 343, then I need to find a legitimate developer who can report this issue directly to Apple.

More laters.

They loaded just fine for me, however I do not have Missing Sync to test with to see if there is still a kernel panic.
